Individual Dental Insurance Plans - 3 Reasons You Can't Afford to Skip Them

If you think that individual dental insurance plans are something that you can't fit into your budget, think again. In reality, you can't afford not to have dental coverage!

Unfortunately, many employers have cut back on their benefits plans. Instead of offering the traditional package that includes dental and vision insurance, lots of companies have cut out dental and vision insurance altogether. If you don't wear glasses or contacts, you might be able to get by without the vision coverage, but no one can afford to go without individual dental insurance.

Here's why:

1. Even routine dental procedures are expensive

Maintaining good oral health means going to your dentist for checkups, cleanings, and x-rays once or twice a year. However, all of that routine care adds up! Go in for just a "basic" checkup, and it could cost a couple hundred dollars! And, if you don't have any kind of dental insurance, you're going to wind up footing that bill all by yourself.

2. You can't predict when you're going to need more serious dental care

If the routine stuff is that costly, can you imagine how much a root canal, a chipped tooth, or a set of braces will cost you? And, unfortunately, there's no way to predict when you're going to need to see a dentist for something serious - so it's not like you can fit it into your monthly budget. After all, how could you ever know that you were about to fall down playing basketball and chip your tooth, or lose a filing that you've had for years?

Individual dental insurance plans are like a safety net. When you buy one, you'll likely still have to pay some of the costs out-of-pocket, but you'll spare yourself the stress of a major expense.

3. They're cheap

Individual dental insurance plans can give you the coverage you need for as little as a few dollars a month. That's the same as a couple of value meals at your favorite fast food restaurant! When you look at it that way, why wouldn't you buy one?

And, to make things even better, you can save more money by adding other family members onto your plan. With a family dental insurance plan, you can get the entire family the dental coverage it needs for less per month than dinner out at a restaurant! And, with the right family dental insurance plan, you can cover everything - from the kids' braces to your husband's root canal.
